In response to the Israeli police’s ban on holding the central March of Return, Palestinian displaced communities will hold dozens of events and marches in their depopulated villages.

The Committee of the Displaced was forced to cancel the central March of Return following threats from the Israeli police and their refusal to allow the march to proceed as in previous years. This time, the police conditioned the march on limiting the number of participants to just 700 (while normally over 10,000 attend), and on banning the display of the Palestinian flag. These are conditions the Committee of the Displaced could not accept. They chose instead to cancel the march, realizing that the police were planning to sabotage the event and forcibly disperse participants.

Instead, smaller events will take place in dozens of depopulated villages.

Zochrot has chosen to join the displaced residents of Miska in the event they are organizing in their village — Miska, near al-Tira / Sde Warburg / Ramat HaKovesh.

The event will include a visit to the site of Miska, an observation of what remains, an explanation of the village before the Nakba, its occupation and the expulsion of its residents, the prevention of their return, and the dispossession measures taken by the State of Israel against the property of the village’s refugees.
