Ron’s photos in Jisr az-Zarqa raise fascinating questions about photography and gaze in general and in the Israeli/Palestinian context in particular.  What kind of photograph he produces?  Which position he offers to the viewers?  Are the photographer and his subjects engaged in a joint endeavor?  What’s the relationship between the posed photos and the snapshots?  What role does aesthetics play in Ron’s photographs?
We’ll talk about these questions with specific reference to Ron Amir’s work, but also in the broader context of the history of photography and of photography in Israel/Palestine.
