Poems from Latzet!, an anthology of poems against Israel's bombardment of Gaza on January this year, in which Zochrot and Sedek also took part, are being published in a book, in Arabic, in Egypt. The book consists of essays from 'Mita'am' and poems from Latzet!. The texts were chosen and translated by Na'el AlToukhy, who also wrote an introduction.
"Some sixty years ago, our land suffered a disaster, known as The Nakba. This Nakba, if we accept the term, was comprehensive. During its course, the images of the two sides of the struggle changed. The Arab, deported from a homeland, turned refugee, and the image of the Jew changed from victim to persecutor. The "Jewish State" was established, based on sin, and so instead of bringing sympathy to the Jews, brought upon new justifications to the hatred of those who until only recently were burned in chambers. […] What had happened sixty years ago is not much different then what is happening now. The world looked upon the sights of Israeli army's bombardment on Gaza. Some Israeli poets followed too, and decided to protest their state's policy.
On the third day of the bombardment of Gaza they published an anthology of poems with the screaming title of Latzet! (Get Out!), including poems of rage by Israeli poets, who decided to join the resistance against Israeli brutality against Gaza, by calling out against it. We publish examples of these poems, hoping to reach two goals: One, making acquaintance with modern Israeli poetry. Two, making acquaintance with the voice of Israeli voices of protest against their state's policy.
