Producing the booklet about Abu Kabir is a decolonizing act involving a process that is not merely conceptual: it involves a decolonization of the production of information and knowledge. This booklet is published at a time when the attack on Gaza and the slaughter of the Palestinian people are only escalating.
This is not a memorial booklet, certainly not in the sense of “commemoration”, nor is it the product of purely academic historical research. It is designed to enable an encounter between the public and the Nakba, and the ongoing one as well. Indeed, it has been written at the time of the war on Gaza, which has also expanded into Lebanon. This booklet is intended especially for the Jewish public living in this country, considering that studying about the Nakba and Israel’s role in instigating and perpetuating the Palestinian disaster is a necessary step towards healing. “Remembering Abu Kabir” is the 66th booklet in the series produced by Zochrot to document the places occupied, destroyed, and depopulated by Israel since 1948.
