April 9, 2019: Zochrot remember Dayr Yasin. Zochrot vote return.

This year, the elections to the Knesset will be held on April 9, 2019, the 71st anniversary of the massacre in Dayr Yasin. As in every year, Zochrot will hold a memorial ceremony for the victims. On the day Israeli citizens are called upon to cast their vote in a celebration of “democracy” and choose among people who stand for military power, if not war crimes, when the platforms of all Zionist parties rely on colonialist logic that excludes the Palestinians, when a leading candidate is proud of having brought Gaza back to the Stone Age, and when the incumbent Prime Minister and his cabinet continue sending troops to kill Palestinians demonstrating for the right of return every Friday on the border with Gaza – we cast a different vote.

We vote for remembering the victims and reminding the truth. We vote for a future of hope. We vote for the right of return of the refugees of Dayr Yasin and all other Palestinian refugees as the only real and necessary option that touches the roots of the ongoing tragedy we all witness here. In doing so, we call upon Jewish society to take responsibility for the injustices of the Nakba.  We offer an opportunity for all those living here to live a life of true peace in a just society.

The memorial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 16:00-18:00 at Dir Yassin.

Meeting point: 13 Kanfei Nesharim St. (near Beit HaTeomim).

The event will include a procession along the main street of Dayr Yasin, today Kanfei Nesharim Street in Givat Shaul neighborhood in Jerusalem; bearing signs with the victims’ names; explanation about the attack and the massacre; observing village remains – private houses, the school and cemetery; and reading the names of the victims aloud. The event will end with a ceremonial gathering in favor of the return of the refugees behind what is now the Kfar Shaul Psychiatric Hospital.

The instruction will be in Hebrew and Arabic. English translation will be available. The one-mile walk is not difficult.
