Sheikh Muwanis

"Sheikh Muwanis Cemetary"

Sheikh Muwanis is a village that existed in what is now Ramat Aviv, a neighborhood of north Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv University was built on the lands of the village, and one of the last material remnants of the village, the Abu Kchil home (known today as the “Green House”) is used as the Marcel Gordon Faculty Lounge. The home of the Mahmoud Yosef Beidas, another one of the few remaining structures, located by the Ramat Aviv Hotel, was demolished just a week before the tour to make way for a high rise project.  Majdulin Beidas and Mona Abu Eid, descendants of Sheikh Muwanis, accompanied the tour and spoke about life in the village, the expulsion of its residents, and the recent destruction of the Beidas home.
